Cold Case Symposium
Inside the Tape LLC will present this fall a new training
course dealing with the investigation of unresolved homicide
cases throughout the country. Agencies do not have to be
present at this training to have one of their cases
submitted for analysis. Hosting agencies will continue to
receive the same courtesy seating as in other Inside the
Tape Training Courses. The target date for the first
training symposium is September 2008 with a host agency yet
to be determined. Course outline will allow one full day of
lecture to discuss the protocol by which cold cases should
be revisited, and an outline discussed that will be used to
review and analyze the last two days of cold case
presentation. Up to 4 cases will be reviewed each of the
last two days allowing for a maximum of two hours per case
review. Each attending investigator will have an opportunity
to complete an analysis form regarding each case which may
be used by the investigating agency to pursue new directions
and leads. Agencies attending the training will not be
required to submit a Cold Case. Cases for presentation will
be taken on a first come basis. Agencies submitting cases
beyond this will still have the opportunity to have their
cases reviewed and critiqued by Inside the Tape, and results
forwarded at a later date. These cases may also be presented
to agencies at future Cold Case Courses so they also have
the opportunity for review in a class setting. This training
will be an excellent opportunity for agencies to not only
receive input regarding unsolved cases, but possibly show
linkage in cases where a serial offender may be suspected.
It is always important for neighboring agencies to maintain
an open line of communication and be aware of unique M.O.’s
should they encounter the same type of offense within their
jurisdiction.
Topics covered during the first day will include the
organization of the case folder / revisiting the crime scene
/ contact and re-interview of potential witnesses / the
analysis of the previous data collected to include witness
statements, scene photos and scene video / re-exploring the
physical evidence and the potential for DNA / CODIS / review
previous suspects statements and current status / exploring
M.O. and Signature link with other agencies.
Agencies wishing to begin the process of having their Cold
Case reviewed and prepared for presentation should contact

We
hope your agency will take advantage of this important
training opportunity and be able to submit a Cold Case for
review and presentation in the hopes of bringing some
closure to not only the investigating agency, but for the
families of victims of violent crime. Thank you.
